AR stands for armalite style rifle when talking about modern sporting rifles, the term "assault rifle is a questionable term that would only logically denote selective firing modes (semi, auto) smaller cartridges, gas powered & with detachable magazine, it's also arguably a made up term from the 80s "anti gun lobbyists" attempting to scare people ... because of the way it looks, not it's capabilities which do not differ from rugers mini 14, except the ruger looks more like a deer rifle... we firearms enthusiasts have it bad enough , especially in this bassackwards banana on the west coast... can we please change that designation to modern sporting rifle or armalite style rifle? Pretty pleeeeease, I be yer best friend ;)
