Typhoon Defense F12 Capacity
The Typhoon Defense F12 accepts 12-gauge shells and is cut with a 3 inch chamber allowing for bird shot, buck shot and slugs to be used. The F12 feeds from single-stack detachable box magazines that come in 5 and 10 round capacities and can even run 20-round drum magazines.
Typhoon Defense F12 Feature
The Typhoon Defense F12 is a semi-automatic,magazine-fed, inerta-driven 12 gauge shotgun with an 18.5 inch barrel that includes replaceable chokes. The barrel is surrounded by a 15 inch free-floating handguard with an interrupted top rail to reduce weight among other things. It was designed to use AR15 components as often as possible but cannot be converted to take a carbine-length buffer tube with a collapsing stock.
Typhoon Defense F12 Ergonomics
The F12 uses a control layout that is directly based on the AR10/AR15 and even uses many of the same parts. It has a rifle-length fixed stock giving it a very natural length of pull for most users, and the fire controls are set up identically to the AR platform. The only difference is the reciprocating charging handle which is on the right side of the upper receiver which is used in a similar fashion to the bolt of an AKM or M1 Garand.
Typhoon Defense F12 Mobility
With an overall length around 38 inches and an unloaded weight of 8.6 pounds, the F12 makes for a very reasonable entry-level shotgun for close-range competition use, even though 3-gun rules would put you in the “open” category. Though its relatively heavy weight would make carrying the gun through the woods on a deer hunt a bit difficult, its short overall length would make moving around trees and brush much easier. This also allows it to be decent as a home-defense shotgun.
Typhoon Defense F12 Fit-N-Finish
If you have a paint scheme in mind, the F12 likely has it. Before you buy one of these guns and find that you’re having trouble with feeding issues, know that it has a 100-round break-in period that requires the use of heavy high-brass loads. To ensure proper function, clean the packing oil off of the gun and apply a good, quality gun oil that isn’t known by a number that is one less than ten. Run 100 rounds of slugs or buck shot or turkey loads, clean it off, add more oil, and you should be right as rain!
