The WA2000 was produced in .308 Winchester (7.62x51mmNATO) and .300 Winchester Magnum and fed from proprietary detachable box magazines with a 6 round capacity.
Walther Wa 2000 Feature
The Walther WA2000 is a semi-automatic precision sniper rifle that operates on a short-stroke gas piston and multi-lug rotating bolt. First-model rifles were built with a flash-dissipating “blast can” at their muzzles while second-model examples used a birdcage-style flash hider. Both models were built with barrel stabilizing frames to accurize the barrel instead of using a free-floating system.
Walther Wa 2000 Ergonomics
The WA2000 has an ambidextrous safety, charging handle and magazine release even though the gun can only be fired left-handed. This bullpup rifle was designed with a thumbhole stock and included an adjustable handstop in the pistol grip. The handguard and grip are stippled for added grip if a police sniper’s hands get sweaty, and second-model examples have an extended support under the buttpad that secures in the crook of the support arm when the user is shooting one-handed.
Walther Wa 2000 Mobility
Measuring 35.6 inches long with an unloaded weight of 15.3 pounds, the WA2000 clearly exhibits its importance on accuracy above everything else. While its overall length is comparable to a typical AR15, its excessive weight definitely suggests that its intended use is from a fixed firing position. It was, after all, designed to excel in that arena.
Walther Wa 2000 Fit-N-Finish
The WA2000 is an incredibly sturdy and accurate rifle thanks to its unique design. Walther only ever produced 176 of these rifles and only 15 were ever imported into the United States. Even though this rifle is classified as a long gun and is legal in most states, its price tag when it goes up for sale is comparable to transferable machine guns defined by the NFA.
