The SVT-40 is chambered in 7.62x54mmR and feeds from 10-round detachable box magazines. These magazines are specific to the SVT-40 and were often specific to the gun as well as magazine manufacturing capabilities were limited during the rifle’s production.
Tokarev Svt-40 Feature
The Tokarev SVT-40 is a semi-automatic rifle made by the Soviet Union that runs on a short-stroke gas piston operated tilting-bolt action. The rifle is built with a barrel that measures approximately 24.6 inches long that is topped with range-adjustable iron sights. A flash hider caps the end of the barrel to cut down on the amount of flash delivered by the 7.62x54mmR’s muzzle blast.
Tokarev Svt-40 Ergonomics
The SVT-40 offers a very traditional rifle setup with a more ergonomic stock over the Mosin Nagant. The controls include a trigger safety located behind the trigger, a magazine release between the trigger guard and magazine well, and a right-side mounted reciprocating charging handle.

The SVT-40 measures slightly over 48 inches long making it longer than other standard infantry rifles of WWII, however its unloaded weight comes in at 8.5 pounds, approximately one half of a pound lighter than its competitors.
