In 1980, Taurus purchased the Beretta factory in Sao Paulo, Brazil "lock, stock and barrel" and immediately sought to improve on the Beretta design, resulting in the popular and acclaimed Taurus 92 and 99 9mm pistols. Taurus' specially designed drop hammer forged ordnance grade alloy frame won't crack or allow the slide to come off. Other innovations include a three position frame mounted ambidextrous safety, which is more secure than a slide mounted safety, and allows for a classic SA "cocked and

Taurus Pt92 Capacity
The Taurus PT92 ships with 10 and 17 round flush-fit magazines. Although it was designed as a copy of the Beretta 92, Beretta’s magazines will not work in the PT92 without slight modification.
Taurus Pt92 Feature
The Taurus PT92 is a copy of the Beretta 92 in many ways. Though it doesn’t share magazines with the Beretta or use a slide-mounted safety, the rest of the gun is a decent copy. It uses a double-action / single-action trigger, has an accessory rail for lights and lasers, a 5 inch barrel, and windage-adjustable sights.
Taurus Pt92 Ergonomics
The Taurus PT92 copies much of the geometry from the Beretta 92 other than its safety. Instead of a slide-mounted safety, Taurus employs a 1911 style ambidextrous thumb safety which is much easier to engage. Its trigger is not as smooth and is heavier than the Beretta, but the rest of the controls and outside surfaces are all identical.
Taurus Pt92 Concealability
With a length well over 8 inches and a height of 5.5 inches, this gun would be difficult to conceal outside of the winter months. Its protruding shapes and edges can cause discomfort when concealing this pistol. The Taurus PT92 is best carried in an open-carry environment.
Taurus Pt92 Fit-N-Finish
The Taurus PT92 does not accept Beretta 92 magazines without making slight modifications to the magazine. Though its parts are accurately machined, the surface finish begins to rub off rather quickly.
