Stg 44 Capacity
The STG44 is chambered in 7.92x33mm (8mm Kurz) and feeds from 30-round detachable box magazines made from stamped steel. When this rifle was first fielded, ammo production was so slow that front-line troops were often running out of ammo on a daily basis with their supply being limited to approximately 100 rounds per day per soldier.
Stg 44 Feature
The Sturmgewehr 44 (STERM-guh-ver) (En: Storm Rifle or Assault Rifle), also called MP43, MP44 and STG44, is a select-fire rifle that is widely considered the first assault rifle. Built with a stamped receiver and many other stamped components, the STG44 operates on a long-stroke gas piston and tilting bolt action. Its 16.5 inch barrel is paired with a hooded front sight and graduated rear sight leaf ranged out to 800 meters.
Stg 44 Ergonomics
The MP44 took a liberal approach to using stamped steel in its construction that continues into the handguard and the pistol grip. The controls include a fire selector lever behind the trigger and a cross-bar safety above the grip, a reciprocating charging handle on the left side of the receiver, and a left-side magazine release. The stamped handguard around the barrel is vented in an effort to keep it cool under fire.
Stg 44 Mobility
With an unloaded weight slightly over 9 pounds and an overall length of approximately 37 inches, the STG44 is about as easy to carry as an AKM pattern rifle. Its short overall length compared to other infantry rifles of WWII allowed for far-improved mobility in close-quarter environments such as urban arenas as well as navigating in and out of vehicles.
