Springfield M1903 A3 "03A3" Capacity

The Springfield 03A3 is chambered in .30-06 and feeds from an internal double-stack 5 round magazine.  This magazine can be fed manually by inserting rounds one-by-one or up to 5 rounds at once with the use of stripper clips.  This rifle also has a magazine cut-off that allows the user to instantly switch the rifle to a single-shot rifle.
Measuring 43.2 inches long with an unloaded weight of 8.7 pounds, the 03A3 has equal handling and mobility scores when compared to other WWII bolt action service rifles.  This rifle was the standard infantry bolt action rifle for United States Marines in the Pacific theater during WWII until it was phased out by the M1 Garand and M1 Carbine.

Springfield M1903 A3 "03A3" Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The 03A3 most commonly retains the straight grip of the M1903 giving it identical ergonomics to the same.  The 03A3 has an identical control setup to the Mauser 1898 with the addition of a magazine cut-off.  The bolt handle sits directly over the trigger for an easy transition, and its two-position safety can be carefully set to the center position where it locks the firing pin but keeps the action free to be cycled.  The other two positions allow the user to fire and cycle the action freely while the safe position locks the action in place.

Springfield M1903 A3 "03A3" Fit & Finish

The Springfield Armory (the real one), Remington, Rock Island Arsenal and Smith-Corona manufactured 03A3 rifles from 1942 to 1944.   This rifle is built into an American Walnut stock sealed with linseed oil while its steel components offer a mixture of blued and parkerized finishes.  After 80 years, these rifles can be found in varying conditions, however only the Smith-Corona rifles would employ the C-shaped grip on its stock.
