Springfield Echelon Features

New for July 2023, the Springfield Echelon is a semi-automatic striker-fired pistol that operates on a short recoil action with a tilting barrel lockup.  This pistol is built on a chassis style frame similar to the SIG P320 and has a 4.5 inch barrel in an optics-ready slide topped with a tritium front sight and U-notch rear sight making it an excellent candidate for future modularity.  The frame includes a Picatinny accessory rail for mounting lasers, weapon lights and other accessories.

Springfield Echelon Capacity

The Echelon is currently only available in 9x19mm Parabellum (9mm Luger, 9x19mm NATO) and comes with a 17 and 19 round magazine out of the box.  Springfield can also ship this pistol with 10 round magazines if you live somewhere with capacity restrictions.  The Echelon does not share magazine compatibility with any of the XD series magazines.

Springfield Echelon Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The Springfield Echelon has fully ambidextrous controls and only has a trigger safety since HS Produkt decided to ditch the grip safety.  The grip as well as the supporting surfaces of the frame have a sandpaper-like grip texture that is somewhat similar to the M&P M2.0 grip, and the gun comes with three easily-replaceable back straps that allow the user to tailor the grip to their hand.  The slide has wide, deep grip serrations that provide excellent traction when manually cycling the action.

Springfield Echelon Fit & Finish

The Springfield Echelon is built with high-strength polymer grip modules and a hammer-forged barrel and is built to be even more tough than the XD series of handguns.  The optics cut on the slide allows for over 30 different red dot sights to be installed and comes with self-locking screws to ensure that the optic doesn’t jiggle loose over time.  Disassembly is very straight-forward and does not require a trigger pull, thus giving this pistol an extra degree of safety.

Springfield Echelon Concealability

Concealability
Measuring 8 inches long and 5.5 inches tall with a grip width of 1.2 inches, the Springfield Echelon is on the more difficult side of the concealability scale, though it’s not impossible.  With the right choice of attire and a good holster, this pistol can be an excellent companion in cooler weather.  Just be sure to wear an undershirt to keep the grip texturing from causing discomfort.
