Springfield Armory 1903 Capacity
The Springfield M1903 is chambered in .30-06 and feeds from an internal double-stack 5 round magazine. This magazine can be fed manually by inserting rounds one-by-one or up to 5 rounds at once with the use of stripper clips. This rifle also has a magazine cut-off that allows the user to instantly switch the rifle to a single-shot rifle.
Springfield Armory 1903 Feature
The Springfield M1903 is directly based on the Mauser M1898 and was put into production without license, a scandal that is commonly cited to this day. The M1903 is built with a 24 inch barrel topped with windage and range-adjustable sights.
Springfield Armory 1903 Ergonomics
The M1903 has an identical control setup to the Mauser 1898 with the addition of a magazine cut-off. The bolt handle sits directly over the trigger for an easy transition, and its two-position safety can be carefully set to the center position where it locks the firing pin but keeps the action free to be cycled. The other two positions allow the user to fire and cycle the action freely while the safe position locks the action in place.
Springfield Armory 1903 Mobility
Measuring 43.2 inches long with an unloaded weight of 8.7 pounds, the M1903 has equal handling and mobility scores when compared to other WWI and WWII bolt action service rifles. Though the gun is a couple of ounces lighter and an inch or so shorter than its competitors, the 1903 delivers more kick while the longer receiver needed to accommodate the long .30-06 cartridge requires more time and care to cycle the action.
Springfield Armory 1903 Fit-N-Finish
Much to the delight of military surplus collectors, the overwhelming majority of M1903 rifles have been kept in their original condition thanks to the successful efforts of military and government entities maintaining these rifles for drill and ceremonial purposes. This rifle is built into an American Walnut stock sealed with linseed oil while its steel components offer a mixture of blued and parkerized finishes.
