Smith & Wesson Sd40Ve Capacity
The Smith & Wesson SD40 VE is chambered in .40 Smith & Wesson and feeds from double-stack, single-feed magazines with a standard capacity of 15 rounds. It is very easy to find 10 round magazines if you live in a state with silly magazine restrictions. While the slide and barrel can easily handle +P ammo, the polymer used for the frames has trouble standing up to the extra abuse.
Smith & Wesson Sd40Ve Feature
The Smith & Wesson SD40 VE is a direct rip-off of a Glock pistol according to a lawsuit from 1997. This semi-automatic, striker-fired pistol operates on a Browning-inspired short recoil action with a tilting barrel and fires from a 15 pound trigger pull. The polymer frame includes an accessory rail ahead of the trigger allowing users to mount weapon lights or lasers.
Smith & Wesson Sd40Ve Ergonomics
As far as the grip goes, the SD40 VE has a very ergonomic hand feel that is similar to the SIG P320 and P250 pistols. The slide includes deep and wide serrations that allow for a very positive hold when manually cycling the action. The biggest drawback to comfort with this pistol is in its 15 pound trigger pull that is so heavy that many users have trouble keeping the gun steady enough to hit their target.
Smith & Wesson Sd40Ve Concealability
The SD40VE has nearly identical overall dimensions to the Glock 19, so given the right holster, attire and holster placement, this pistol is definitely concealable. The lack of any overly-abrasive grip texturing increases the comfort level while carrying as direct contact with bare skin is less likely to cause an uncomfortable rash.
Smith & Wesson Sd40Ve Fit-N-Finish
You would think that copying Glock’s homework would lead to a pistol that is as nice as Glock, but that would be an incorrect assumption. The SD40 VE is as reliable, however between the extremely heavy trigger and the inferior polymer choice for the frames, the SD40 VE falls rather far down the quality list.
