Smith & Wesson response Features

The Smith & Wesson Response is a semi-automatic, direct-blowback operated pistol caliber carbine that is heavily inspired by the AR15 and uses a good number of the same parts.  These include the trigger group, charging handle, the adjustable stock, and the pistol grips.  This rifle has a 16.5 inch threaded barrel that is surrounded by a free-floating M-LOK handguard that offers a full-length optics rail that is large enough to accommodate any optics setup.

Smith & Wesson response Capacity

The S&W Response is chambered in 9mm Parabellum (9mm Luger, 9x19mm NATO) and feeds from a number of popular pistol magazines.  The magazine well can be swapped out by the user in order to accept Glock, M&P, SIG P320 and other popular magazines to give you compatibility between your carbine and sidearm.  This allows for capacities from 10 up to 33 rounds depending on the magazines you choose, granted they’re double-stack, single-feed options.  The only mags that might not work are the subcompact ones like you’d find in a Glock 26 or a SIG P320SC.
The S&W Response measures 32.125 inches long with its stock fully collapsed and has an unloaded weight of 5.9 pounds giving it a better mobility score over a typical AR15 that often weighs at least one pound more.  That said, it is just as long as a typical AR and has geometry that is just as complex, so navigating through tight spaces will only be made slightly easier with this lower weight.

Smith & Wesson response Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The S&W Response has identical controls to a regular AR15 which allows for a very flat learning curve, and the only real difference in feel comes from S&W’s proprietary pistol grip and the different magazine well.  Aside from that, you might think you’re holding another AR15 in your hands when you pick up a Response.  This rifle does lack a forward assist, aka “jam button”, because it’s simply not required.

Smith & Wesson response Fit & Finish

The S&W Response gets its light weight from its handguard and its upper and lower receivers, all of which are made of the same high-strength polymer used for the M&P15-22 rifle and the FPC carbine.  The trigger group, pistol grip and stock can all be swapped out for your preferred aftermarket AR15 components if you decide that you want to customize the gun to your liking.
