The stainless steel slide has a durable, black oxide finish, and rear cocking serrations that provide a secure grip when loading or clearing the action. The M&P40 semi-auto pistol has a slide release lever on both sides of the frame, and the magazine release is reversible. The trigger system prevents the firearm from discharging unless the trigger is fully depressed, even if the pistol is dropped. There is no external thumb safety. The trigger pull is smooth and clean, and it breaks predictably. A low-profile steel rear sight and a white-dot front sight are rapidly acquired with minimum interference when drawing the weapon from a holster or bag.
