The XM250 is produced by SIG Sauer and was the winner of the United States Army's NGSW program to replace the M27, M249 and M240 in frontline service. Chambered in the new .277 SIG Fury (6.8x51mm) this squad automatic weapon uses the same ammo as the XM5 rifle and is also capable of firing the same high-pressure rounds used in the new system.

Technical Data

Sig Sauer Xm250 Capacity

The SIG M250 is chambered in .277 SIG Fury, also known as 6.8x51mm and is likely to soon get a NATO designation.  This round was developed from the 7.62 NATO cartridge and was re-designed to handle chamber pressures of 80,000PSI. These rounds are connected by M13 links (unverified) and are typically contained by 100- and 200-round semi-rigid ammo boxes.

Sig Sauer Xm250 Feature

The SIG M250 is a fully-automatic, gas operated, belt-fed machine gun that is slated to replace the M249, M240 and M27 in frontline US Army infantry units.  This machine gun is built with a 17.5 inch barrel and has an adjustable stock to provide the user with a comfortable length of pull.  This gun can be reloaded without having to lift the top cover as we see with most modern belt-fed guns.

Sig Sauer Xm250 Ergonomics

The M250 uses an AR15 pistol grip which offers a very comfortable and familiar feel to the user.  The bottom of the main receiver provides a decent amount of real estate for placing a support hand which allows the gun to be fired from the shoulder.  When firing from the prone position, the legs of the bipod can easily be reached thanks to the gun’s shorter overall length.

Sig Sauer Xm250 Mobility

Measuring just shy of 42 inches long with the suppressor attached and with an unloaded weight just shy of 13 pounds, the M250 provides more firepower than the M240 in a package smaller and lighter than the M249, both of which are being replaced by the M250.  The light weight and relatively short overall length will definitely give the soldiers carrying it an edge over the Marines who are going to be stuck with the M240G.

Sig Sauer Xm250 Fit-N-Finish

The M250 has a 3D printed silencer!  Well, it’s made with additive manufacturing, but tomato/tomahto.  The receiver components are made out of some metallic alloy, probably 7075-T6 aircraft grade aluminum or some kind of magnesium, and they are probably coated in a cerakote or duracoat paint.  They’re trying to keep everything secret for now.
