Sig Sauer Sg 550 Capacity
The SG 550 is chambered in 5.56x45mmNATO (.223 Remington) and feeds from proprietary, translucent polymer detachable box magazines. The most common of these hold 30 rounds while smaller 10 and 20 round magazines are available. The mags are loaded into the gun similar to an AKM with a “rock and lock” motion.
Sig Sauer Sg 550 Feature
The SIG Sauer SG 550 is the first in a series of gas operated rifles based on an AKM style action. This rifle uses a long-stroke gas piston and 2-lug rotating bolt and is built with a 20.8 inch barrel topped with a hooded front sight and a range-adjustable diopter sight at the rear. The 550 model can be equipped with a folding bipod that folds into the handguard.
Sig Sauer Sg 550 Ergonomics
The SG 550 feels like a hybrid of a bunch of rifles. The stock and the optics give it a feel similar to the G3, the pistol grip feels very similar to the FN FAL, the controls largely take from the AKM, the safety is located similarly to the AR15, and the handguard offers a forward grip that feels reminiscent of an M16A1.
Sig Sauer Sg 550 Mobility
The SG 550 measures 39.3 inches long and has an unloaded weight of 9.04 pounds making it as long as an M16A2 and making it approximately 2 pounds heavier. The SG 550’s saving grace is its folding stock that can reduce the overall length to under 30 inches for navigating through tight spaces.
Sig Sauer Sg 550 Fit-N-Finish
The handguard, pistol grip and stock are made of high-strength polymers while the rest of the parts are made of hardened steel. This rifle is built with stamped receivers and has a rather complex maintenance procedure when compared to an AR or AK. The bolt assembly disassembles through a strange order of operations that are designed to ensure reliability and accuracy.
