The action mechanism, designed by Frederick Beesley, retains a portion of the energy in the mainsprings to facilitate the opening of the gun - "an inherent easy opener!"All Purdey barrels, both SxS and O/U, are of chopper lump construction.Each individual tube is hand filed and then "struck up" using striking files. This gives the tube the correct Purdey profile with wall thickness tollerance of .001". Purdey Slakum finish is an oil finish, unique to Purdeys and is made up in house from linseed oil, beeswax and driers. Stock is made of Turkish walnut.
