The Ruger SP101 is a series of double-action revolvers produced by the American company Sturm, Ruger & Co. The SP101 is a small frame and all-steel-construction carry revolver, with a five-shot (.38 Special, .357 Magnum, and 9×19mm Parabellum), six-shot (.327 Federal Magnum and .32 H&R Magnum), or eight-shot (.22 LR) cylinder. The Ruger SP101 was introduced in 1989 as the smaller-frame counterpart to the GP100. Ruger Sp101 Capacity
The SP101 is a revolver with a capacity of 5 for .357 Magnum, 5 for 9mm, 6 for .327 Federal, or 8 for 22LR. The cylinder is released by depressing the lock release located on the left side of the frame behind the cylinder to allow for the revolver to be loaded, unloaded or empty cases ejected via an ejector rod attached on the front of the cylinder.
Ruger Sp101 Feature
The SP101 is available in 3 barrel lengths, 2.25”, 3”, and 4.2” and blued or stainless metal. It has a fiber optic front sight and squared rear sight. It incorporates a triple-locking cylinder for positive alignment and dependable action, along with a transfer bar safety. The SP101 is a Double Action/Single Action revolver with trigger pull weights of 10.5 lbs and 3.2 lbs respectively.
Ruger Sp101 Ergonomics
The SP101 fits the hand well and all functions are easily performed one handed. It points well and offers good sight picture and control for follow up shots. The weight is well balanced and helps tame recoil when using magnum or +P loads. It is a solid cast steel frame revolver with great strength.
Ruger Sp101 Concealability
With 3 barrel lengths, 2.25”, 3”, and 4.2”, the SP101 has options for concealed or open carry in the field. The weight is heavier than most polymer pistols used for concealed carry but the weight helps reduce felt recoil and offers better control. It has been described as a “Trail to Town” firearm with just cause.

The SP101 features a brushed stainless steel finish with different grip options available. Ruger has a reputation for nice firearms with reliable function and durability and the SP101 is no different. Others may boast of a more refined finish but none can say they outperform in the categories of functionality.
