The P89 is an upgraded P85 MKII that introduced a number of new features; including a DAO model. In 1991, Ruger produced a limited run P89X convertible model, which came with a second barrel and recoil spring assembly that allowed conversion between 9mm and .30 Luger calibers. The P89 was discontinued in late 2007.

Ruger P89 Capacity
The Ruger P89 uses steel double-stack, single-feed detachable box magazines with standard capacities of 10 and 15 rounds. Aftermarket magazines are available with 20 and 32 round capacities, and the Ruger P89 shares magazine compatibility with the Rugers P85, P93, P94 and P95.
Ruger P89 Feature
The now discontinued Ruger P89 is a full-sized pistol chambered in 9mm and has a standard magazine capacity of 15 rounds. The safety is mounted on the left side of the steel slide and the double-action / single action trigger is set in an aluminum frame. The P89 has a 4.5 inch barrel and windage-adjustable sights.
Ruger P89 Ergonomics
The Ruger P89 lacks a lot of ergonomic features compared to other wonder-nines of its time. The lack of slide serrations or effective grip texturing give this gun very strange ergonomics, while the lack of texturing on the controls gives it an incomplete feel. The long double-action trigger pull is heavy and anything but smooth and feels like you’re fighting it the entire way, and the single-action trigger pull has a short take-up and a heavy break.
Ruger P89 Concealability
The Ruger P89 measures 7.5 inches long and 5.5 inches tall, making this pistol very difficult to conceal, and its width of 1.3 inches doesn’t help. The Ruger P89 was designed with duty carry in mind, and is best carried in open-carry settings.
Ruger P89 Fit-N-Finish
The Ruger P89 is made with incredibly hard steel components which benefit its reliability and durability. The double-action trigger is rather smooth but has an incredibly heavy pull weight, and the grip’s texturing is outdated by today’s standards. Disassembly is relatively easy with its 1911 style takedown bar.
