Ballistic Stats
The 4-pound 14+1 capacity .22 LR Remington Nylon 66 semi-automatic was the company’s first polymer stock rifle. This transformative .22 LR happened in collaboration with DuPont. They developed the rugged, lightweight and resilient structural Nylon 66 polymer that Remington used for the (simulated wood) stock and receiver. The 19.5” length barrel was 4140 ordnance steel. Length-of-pull was 13 5/8”, drop was 2 3/8” and overall length was 38 1/2". The tube magazine wasn’t under the barrel, but rather ran from the buttstock

Remington Nylon 66 Capacity
The Nylon 66 is chambered in .22LR and feeds from a fixed tube style magazine with a capacity of 14 rounds. This rifle cycles most reliably with standard-velocity ammo paired with 3-in-1 oil as a lubricant in the action.
Remington Nylon 66 Feature
The Nylon 66 was a significant gamble for the Remington company as its design was the first to attempt building an entire rifle out of plastic. While the bolt and barrel are made of steel, the rest of the original gun was made of nylon. A steel “receiver cover” was added into the final production design as a faux pas to the haters that would otherwise mock a plastic gun. We still have those people, they just dump on the AR15 and Glock now.
Remington Nylon 66 Ergonomics
The Nylon 66 has the look and feel of an older .22 caliber rifle and has all of the typical controls that you would expect to see on a semi-automatic rimfire. While the barrel is made of steel and the rest of the gun is made of nylon, this rifle does have a somewhat front-heavy balance.
Remington Nylon 66 Mobility
The Nylon 66 measures 38.5 inches long and has an unbelievably light unloaded weight of only 4 pounds! This rifle can easily be lifted by essentially anyone that is tall enough to hold it properly.
Remington Nylon 66 Fit-N-Finish
Possibly the most interesting part of the Nylon 66 lies in its receiver design. When originally introduced, the first people to test the rifle didn’t like the idea that it was almost entirely made of a new, untested polymer. Remington literally designed a non-functioning receiver shell to give it the impression that more metal was used in the design in order to avoid a marketing failure.
