It retains the standard 4+1 capacity and almost all parts, but is built with either an 18 or 20 inch barrel and has a shortened forend to prevent it getting caught on equipment and other objects when climbing in or out of a squad car.

The Remington 870 Police Magnum copies the 870’s overall shape, but negates the use of checkering on the stocks. While all of the controls are in the same place, the handguard has been shortened to assist the user in entering and exiting vehicles by removing unneeded material that could get caught on wires or seatbelts or other objects. Both the model with iron sights and the model with a front bead sight offer comfortable cheek welds for most users.
