Maverick Arms Model 88 Capacity
The Maverick 88 is available in 12 and 20 gauge and has a barrel cut with a 3 inch chamber allowing it to feed an overwhelming variety of shotgun loads. The 88 feeds from a fixed tube style magazine that can hold 4, 5 and 8 shells depending on the setup you buy. Rounds are loaded directly into the magazine tube through the loading port in the bottom of the receiver.
Maverick Arms Model 88 Feature
The Maverick Arms Model 88, known by many as the “Maverick 88”, is a lightweight pump action shotgun that was designed and produced for the budget-minded consumer while still offering reliable performance. The gun itself is very modular and can have an 18.5, 20 or 28 inch barrel. The smooth bores include all barrel lengths and have fixed chokes while the rifled barrels are only available in 20 inch setups.
Maverick Arms Model 88 Ergonomics
As far as the controls go, the Maverick 88 is nearly identical to the Mossberg 500 with the only difference being in the placement of the safety in front of the trigger guard instead of resting along the top of the frame. All front grips on the Maverick are the thinner ribbed forend found on many of the Mossberg 500 police models. These grips and the stocks are interchangeable with aftermarket M500 components.
Maverick Arms Model 88 Mobility
Thanks to its aluminum frame and the often lighter weight barrel profiles, the Maverick 88 handles identically to the Mossberg 500 but weighs less making it easier to carry and maneuver with over longer periods of time. The downside to this higher mobility through its lighter weight is the increase in felt recoil as the 88 is much more snappy than a 500 when firing the same ammo.
Maverick Arms Model 88 Concealability
As goofy and borderline-useless as shotguns without a stock can be, the Maverick 88 is available in a “Sawed Off” setup. In this model, it has an 18.5 inch barrel and uses a 5-round magazine tube and replaces the stock with a pistol grip that will instantly make your wrist sore. With an overall length over 26 inches, this is still classified by the ATF as a long gun. While you won’t be concealing it down your pants, you can easily tuck it behind a nightstand or under the seat of your car.
Maverick Arms Model 88 Fit-N-Finish
While the action may not be as smooth, nor the finish as clean as a Mossberg 500, the Maverick 88 is just as reliable. Its aluminum receiver is anodized to keep it from corroding, its steel parts are blued to retain oil to prevent rust, and its factory-installed furniture is composite so it won’t rot or split. The aftermarket support is incredible as all M500 accessories will fit.
