The MPA57 is chambered in 5.7x28mm and feeds from a double-stack, double-feed magazine. These are the same magazines used in the FN Five-seveN pistol which are also available limited to 10 rounds. You can also find 30-round mags if you know where to look.

Do you like the gangster look of the MAC-11 but you also appreciate the engineering behind the 5.7mm cartridge? The Masterpiece Arms MPA57 combines these two worlds with a bang…or 20. The MPA57 operates on a direct-blowback action with a telescoping bolt for improved reliability and includes a 5 inch barrel that is compensated to reduce muzzle flip. This gun is topped with windage-adjustable iron sights as well as a 7 inch section of Picatinny rail for mounting dot optics.
Masterpiece Arms Defender Mpa57 Ergonomics
The MPA57 improves on the ergonomics of the MAC-11 with an angled grip that includes better contours than the boxy original. It has an FAL style non-reciprocating charging handle on the left side and has an American style magazine release instead of that strange “bottom of the grip” release button that you find on a MAC.

The MPA57 is available as a rifle with a 16.5 inch barrel and a folding stock as well as a pistol. The rifle measures about the same length as a typical AR15 with a comparable weight, and it scores a higher mobility due to the folding stock that shortens the entire gun to less than 2 feet.

The MPA57 is available in a handful of different setups and colors as its production has spanned a handful of years and updates. Regardless, it uses a stamped steel construction where you can find weld marks that show the gun was built to be tough. The lower frames are currently made of a fiberglass-reinforced polymer that has no problem holding up to the soft-recoiling 5.7 cartridge.
