Marlin 60 Features

The Marlin Model 60 is a semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle that operates on a direct-blowback action.  This rifle is built with a 19 inch barrel topped with a hooded front sight and an elevation-adjustable rear sight.  The receiver includes a ⅜” dovetail scope rail and is also drilled and tapped in order to accept a Weaver-style scope rail.  One of the more handy features of this rifle is in its charging handle that can easily be pulled back and pushed in to manually lock the bolt to the rear, an added safety measure that comes in handy when teaching young and new shooters.

Marlin 60 Capacity

The Marlin Model 60 is a semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle with a tube magazine capable of holding up to 14 rounds.  To load the magazine, turn the safety on and hold the gun so the barrel is pointing both up and in a safe direction.  Twist the rod under the muzzle and lift the brass magazine tube until the .22LR shaped cutaway in the black magazine tube is open.  Load up to 14 rounds of .22LR with the nose of the bullet towards the muzzle and drop them in.  Replace the brass tube, and cycle the bolt to chamber a round.
Weighing only five pounds, the Marlin Model 60 is one of the lightest contemporary .22 caliber semi automatics.  Its light weight and short overall length of 37.5 inches makes squirrel and small game hunting easy. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been plinking soda cans in the back yard or if it’s your first time shooting a gun, this rifle is easy to carry no matter how fit you are.

Marlin 60 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The Marlin Model 60 comes standard with a black walnut Monte Carlo style stock, while composite stocks are available.  The comb gives a comfortable cheek weld while using the factory sights and the rifle’s tendency to be a bit front-heavy minimizes the swaying you get while shooting offhand.  The rifle has a reciprocating charging handle and a cross-bolt safety that sits behind the trigger guard.  Between its weight and its small caliber, this rifle has a similar amount of kick to a Red Ryder BB gun, and its long barrel does well to reduce the report which reduces discomfort, and that’s a big benefit if you’re teaching a new shooter.

Marlin 60 Fit & Finish

The wood stock of the Marlin Model 60 is sealed to protect it from rain and moisture and matches up to the buttpad without any proud wood.  The receiver is made of a cast alloy known as “pot metal” and is often coated with a durable paint.  All of the other metal components are steel with a blued finish or are made of stainless steel.  The buttpad along the back of the stock is made of plastic, and over the years as it’s exposed to sunlight and changing temperatures, these can become quite brittle, so if your Marlin 60 is decades old, treat her gently.
