The Marlin Model 983 is chambered in .22WMR (.22 Magnum) and feeds from a fixed tube magazine and has a 12 round capacity. Rounds are loaded into the magazine tube by removing the brass inner magazine tube and loading rounds nose-up through the loading port cut into the bottom of the steel outer magazine tube.

The Marlin Model 983 is a bolt-action rifle chambered in .22Magnum with a 12-round tube magazine. Its 22 inch barrel is topped with a hooded front sight and an elevation-adjustable rear sight. The gun is set in a walnut monte-carlo style stock.
Marlin 983 Ergonomics
The marlin 983 has a cock-on-open bolt with a handle that sits just forward of the trigger to allow for an easy transition. Its safety is located along the right side of the receiver over the trigger and is easily reached by the thumb or trigger finger. Its grip and forend are artistically checkered and don’t offer any added grip or control, though that’s not very important in a .22 caliber rifle.

The Marlin 983 measures 41 inches long and has an unloaded weight of 6 pounds. This combined with its lack of protruding features makes it very easy to carry through thick woods when out squirrel hunting or plinking at soda cans in the back yard.
