M40A3 Capacity
The M40A3 is chambered in 7.62x51mmNATO (.308 Winchester) and feeds from a 5-round internal magazine.
M40A3 Feature
The M40A3 is built on a Remington 700 short-action receiver and has a 25 inch bull barrel to provide superior accuracy and muzzle velocity. The optics rail is bedded and torqued onto the receiver to provide improved accuracy and stability. Every M40A3 was built by the Marines who carried them as building one was part of the curriculum in USMC sniper school.
M40A3 Ergonomics
The M40A3 is built on a composite Anschutz stock with an adjustable cheek riser that allows the user to tailor the cheek weld to provide the best sight picture. The length of pull can be adjusted by adding or removing spacers between the stock and the buttpad. The bolt handle is located directly over the trigger for an easy transition when cycling the action.
M40A3 Mobility
The M40A3 measures 44 inches long and has an unloaded weight of 16.5 pounds. The extreme weight is mostly caused by the heavy barrel profile and the solid composite stock. While the weight is definitely high, the recoil is much softer than typical bolt action .308 caliber rifles.
M40A3 Fit-N-Finish
Each M40A3 is custom-built by the Marine Corps snipers that carry them and thus all have different pull weights on the triggers. The steel components are black-nitride coated for resistance to damage from weather and wear…and due to the global war on terror, most of these rifles are covered in tan and brown spray paint. This wasn’t done just to camouflage the gun, but also limited how much sunlight would heat up the barrel.
