The M19 Mustang is a multi-caliber rifle that functions primarily on modern long recoil action, utilizing recoil impulse to operate the rifle without gas. The resulting system runs clean and is free of carbon fouling. The Mustang fires high-caliber cartridges (currently chambered in .308) with significantly reduced recoil. The free movement of a reciprocating barrel and the bolt carrier group absorbs excess recoil after a shot is fired. The barrel locks into battery via a redundant conical interface to ensure consistent accuracy with follow-up shots. The rifle features ambidextrous receiver controls (magazine and bolt catch), a selective ambidextrous, non-reciprocating and self-returning forward charging handle, and a folding stock that maintains the ability to fire with the stock folded. The rifle can be completely disassembled, including barrel changes, by the operator, in the field with no special tools. The Mustang also features a 3-piece receiver wedge-lock system that ensures positive repeatable assembly for strength and accuracy. The bolt, ejector, extractor, magazine, and barrel spring are common AR-10 patterned parts, making manufacturing and customization more practical and affordable. The rifle is 9 lbs. overall, 40 inches deployed (with extended stock), 25 inches in stow mode (with stock folded and barrel locked back), has 21 inches of uninterrupted Picatinny mounting rail, and M-lok accessory mounting points.
