See DealThe Izhmash AK-12 is a select-fire AK47 derivative that was developed by Kalashnikov Concern at the Ishevsk factory in Russia. This rifle's initial development ended in 2011 and was rejected by the Russian military due to their surplus of AK74 rifles and their lack of faith in Izhmash's financial state. The rejected prototype offered many improvements to its controls and ergonomics, however the design was scrapped entirely in favor of what many consider to be a step in the wrong direction. The

Izhmash Ak-12 Capacity
The AK12 is chambered in 5.45x39mm and feeds from proprietary polymer magazines that have a capacity of 30 rounds. The rifle can also use standard AK74 magazines as well as the 75 round drums used on the RPK74 light machine gun.
Izhmash Ak-12 Feature
The AK12 is a select-fire assault rifle based on the AK74 and AK400 rifles and has multiple firing modes including semi-auto, 2-round burst, and fully automatic. This rifle is built with a 16.2 inch barrel topped with iron sights and a full-length optics rail. The sights were moved further back on the gun placing the front sight at the gas block and the rear sight on the back of the dust cover allowing the use of more accurate aperture sights as well as increasing the sight radius.
Izhmash Ak-12 Ergonomics
The AK12 has identical controls to the AK74 with the addition of an extra fire control selector position. The standard pistol grip of the AK12 is ergonomically superior to many other standard grips, and the handguard allows for accessories like grips and stuff. The folding stock can be adjusted for length of pull, and unfolding the stock involves pressing down on a lever inside the hinge.
Izhmash Ak-12 Mobility
Measuring 36.3 inches with an unloaded weight of 7.72 pounds, the AK12 offers nearly identical marks for mobility against the AK47 and AK74 only losing points due to its notably long muzzle device. The AK12 is equipped with a folding stock that brings its overall length to 27.1 inches making it short enough to easily jump with out of aircraft as well as make it easy to maneuver in and out of vehicles.
Izhmash Ak-12 Fit-N-Finish
The AK12 offers a disassembly that is very similar to the traditional AKM with a few notable differences. This rifle is built on a stamped receiver and is compatible with many AR15 pattern adjustable stocks. The biggest issues with the AK12 include its handguard that is quite flexible and its 2-round burst fire mode that sometimes decides to fire 3 rounds. The trigger is smoother than a typical surplus AK, however the spring weight is much heavier due to the expanded fire controls.
