Iwi Tavor Tar-21 Capacity
The IWI Tavor TAR-21 is chambered in 5.56x45mmNATO and has a standard magazine capacity of 30 rounds. The Tavor feeds from most AR15 pattern magazines and can also feed from 60 round drum magazines. The quad-stack 60 and 100 round box magazines typically don’t fit, nor do Magpul’s Gen2 magazines.
Iwi Tavor Tar-21 Feature
The Tavor TAR-21 is a select-fire bullpup style rifle that operates on an AK47-inspired long-stroke gas piston with a rotating multi-lug bolt similar to IWI’s Desert Eagle. The TAR-21 has an 18 inch barrel that is accompanied with flip-up iron sights and a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail that is directly fixed to the barrel for the best possible accuracy. The bolt carrier group can be replaced to allow for left- or right-side ejection, a big benefit to left-handed users.
Iwi Tavor Tar-21 Ergonomics
The TAR-21 is a bullpup rifle, so the controls are scattered across the entire gun. The bolt release is a push-lever located behind the magazine well, the magazine release lever is located on the front of the mag well, and the charging handle is located along the front of the gun and can be switched from the left to right side. The safety is located above the pistol grip in similar fashion to the AR15.
Iwi Tavor Tar-21 Mobility
The TAR-21 measures 28.3 inches long and has an unloaded weight of 7.2 pounds thanks to its bullpup design and heavy use of polymers. Just like most bullpups, the rifle is incredibly back-heavy, however this balance ceases to be an issue once the rifle is shouldered. The TAR-21 was adopted by the Israeli Military due to its ease in maneuverability when getting in and out of vehicles and when navigating close-quarter environments.
Iwi Tavor Tar-21 Fit-N-Finish
The TAR-21 was designed to be easier to maintain than an AR15, and the gun was also designed from the outside-in. While most guns are designed around their inner workings, the Tavor designed the grip, receiver and control placement and then designed the action to fit inside of the polymer shell. The Tavor family of rifles has seen considerable re-designs, with the most notable being the TAR’s full-length top rail and later the redesign into the X-95.
