H&R Buffalo Classic rifles are classics to the core, modeled after the Frank Wesson tip up rifles that were first made in Worcester, Massachusetts in the 1850s. Traditional styling and aiming stability were foremost in its design. Offered in 45-70 Govt., its 32" midweight barrel helps this big bore cartridge develop full velocity and accuracy potential. It also provides the necessary sighting radius for long range matches. The Williams receiver sight is

H&R 1871 Buffalo Capacity
The Buffalo rifle is chambered in .45-70 Government. As a break-action rifle with a single barrel, this rifle has a capacity of 1 round. To load the rifle, press the lever next to the hammer and pivot the barrel down, then insert the round. To unload a spent or unfired case, do the same except remove the cartridge by grabbing onto the rim.
H&R 1871 Buffalo Feature
The Harrington & Richardson 1871 Buffalo is a break-action rifle designed for hunting large game. Its 32 inch long barrel offers excellent muzzle velocity and its sights on top offer a clear sight picture for an easy shot. This rifle fires from a single-action trigger pull. The rear sight is adjustable for elevation and the front sight is adjustable for windage.
H&R 1871 Buffalo Ergonomics
The Buffalo rifle has very standard controls that include a single-action hammer, the trigger, and the barrel release lever. The stock has a straight grip and the forend has a thin, narrow grip style. Both the stock and forend are checkered to offer a steady hold when carrying or firing this rifle. The stock has a significant drop both for comfort and to increase the muzzle flip in order to reduce the felt recoil.
H&R 1871 Buffalo Mobility
With an overall length of 47 inches and an unloaded weight just shy of 8 pounds, this rifle is likely best used in open fields or in wooded areas with full canopies that prevent smaller plants from growing too tall. Though its weight can make it difficult to carry over long distances, it does reduce felt recoil.
H&R 1871 Buffalo Fit-N-Finish
The Buffalo rifle is made with Walnut stocks that are typically 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch wider than the metal they attach to, and the handguard mount is a bit wider than the receiver. The blued barrel is slightly undersized compared to the receiver as well, but at least the receiver is color case hardened, right? It’s a low-cost rifle, you get what you pay for.
