The HK MP7 is a select-fire personal defense weapon (PDW) with an action that is heavily inspired by HK's G36 rifle. It was designed in the late 1980's for a NATO competition to provide troops with a weapon that is superior to a pistol when the troops in question don't expect to need a rifle. Artillery crews, drivers, tank crew and others were to be issued a PDW instead of an M16 or similar rifle. The MP7 tied for first place against FN's P90, though neither ended up being adopted in large numbers. The most notable users of the MP7 are Tier-1 special forces units, the US Secret Service, and content creators on YouTube who keep bullying Heckler & Koch to produce a civilian-legal variant. Please, HK, it's all we want. Make a civilian version, we beg you!

HK MP7 Features

The HK MP7 is a gas-operated select-fire Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) that operates on a short stroke gas piston and multi-lug rotating bolt action.  It is equipped with a 7.1 inch barrel topped with a full-length MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail that allows for a wide variety of optics and it has a 4-position collapsing stock allowing its users to adjust the length of pull according to their height and the equipment they wear.

HK MP7 Ballistics

HK MP7 Capacity

The MP7 is chambered in 4.6x30mm and feeds from double-stack, double-feed magazines.  Flush-fit magazines offer capacities of 20 rounds while larger magazines hold 40 rounds.  The 4.6mm round was developed by HK to defeat Russian body armor at close and medium ranges and can punch through a Russian helmet at 100 meters.
The MP7 measures 25.1 inches long and collapses down to 16.3 inches and has an unloaded weight of 4.2 pounds.  According to its intended role, this allowed the gun to easily be carried by soldiers that didn’t need to carry a rifle designed for frontline use.  According to its current role, this light weight and short length allowed the Delta operators and Navy SEALs to carry more ammo.

HK MP7 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The MP7 has a folding front grip that locks in at 0, 45 and 90 degrees and a pistol grip that is basically vertical to accommodate the magazine and facilitate easy reloads.  The fire selector lever is easily reached by the user’s shooting thumb, and all controls are ambidextrous.  The charging handle is located behind the rear sight and acts in similar fashion to the AR15.

HK MP7 Fit & Finish

The MP7 has two main variants being the A1 and A2.  The A1 has a folding front grip and is only available in black while the A2 has a 3-sided handguard with Picatinny rails allowing the user to choose their own attachments on the front end.  The A2 is available in black and desert tan.
