HK G36C Features

The HK G36C is a select-fire rifle whose inner workings are directly based on the Armalite AR-18 that uses a short-stroke gas piston and rotating bolt.  The receiver, stock and handguard are made of high-strength polymers to reduce the weight of the gun.  The G36C is built with a 9-inch barrel paired with a 4-prong flash hider.

HK G36C Capacity

The G36 family of rifles are chambered in 5.56x45mmNATO (.223 Remington) and feed from proprietary translucent polymer magazines.  The standard capacity for the G36 is 30 rounds while shorter 10 round box magazines are available, along with 100 round dual-drum “beta mags”.  The G36 has a removable magazine well that can be replaced with one that allows it to accept AR15/M16/M4 magazines.

The G36C measures 29.8 inches with its stock folded and 39.3 inches extended with an unloaded weight of 6.2 pounds.  This short overall length allows the operator to easily navigate close-quarter environments as well as open terrain.  The ambidextrous controls benefit the mobility allowing the rifle to be fired easily by both left and right handed users.

HK G36C Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The G36C has a polymer handguard that has a triangular cross section that measures approximately 9 inch long.  All of the controls including the charging handle, bolt and magazine releases and the safety are ambidextrous.  The folding stock is designed to allow the user to fire the gun while the stock is folded.  The pistol grip of the G36 is a nearly identical copy to the MP5 when considering feel.

HK G36C Fit & Finish

The G36C is made with extensive use of polymer which caused a scandal back in 2012.  Essentially, the black polymer would expand under direct sunlight causing accuracy problems.  Coupled with the thin barrel profile that would heat up quickly during gun fights, the G36 would lose effective accuracy so the German government decided to replace it with an HK416 in 2022.
