The HK G3 is chambered in 7.62x51mmNATO and feeds from 20-round detachable box magazines. Smaller magazines with capacities of 5 and 10 rounds exist, however their use was typically reserved for rifles like the PSG-1 sniper rifle.
Hk G3 (Hk91) Feature
The Heckler & Koch G3 (HK91) is a select-fire battle rifle that operates on a roller-delayed blowback action which allows the rifle to cycle without the need for a gas system often found on self-loading rifles chambered for full-power cartridges. The G3 is built with a 17.7 inch barrel topped with a hooded front sight and a range-adjustable rear diopter sight. This thing is basically an MP5 chambered in 308.
Hk G3 (Hk91) Ergonomics
The G3 has a safety selector located on the left side of the trigger housing and most users need to stretch their hands to reach it due to most people’s thumbs not being long enough. The magazine release includes a paddle behind the magazine and an optional push-button release on the right side of the magazine well. The charging handle is located over the handguard on the left side and folds down when not in use.
Hk G3 (Hk91) Mobility
Measuring 40.4 inches long with an unloaded weight of 9.7 pounds, the G3 scores better points for mobility over other battle rifles such as the M14 and FN FAL only in its smooth design that prevents vegetation and other objects from catching on it. Its length prevents any ease of use in close-quarter environments and its weight can easily cause fatigue while not doing much to reduce felt recoil. The awkward control placement also reduces reloading speed when compared to other battle rifles.

The G3 has a long career that includes many design changes. The G3 can be found with handguards made of stamped steel, wood, or composite materials and it can be found with many different stocks. Inside the bolt assembly is a mechanism that prevents bolt bounce when firing in full-auto, and this spring-loaded arm makes charging the rifle more difficult.
