The Jaeger 10 VSP from Haenel is a precision rifle on the borderline between sporting and hunting use. The abbreviation stands for Varmint Sporter Pro. The basis of the rifle is a compact 19-millimetre barrel and a fibreglass-reinforced synthetic stock with height-adjustable cheek piece. The sling-swivel adapter is positioned such that it can also be used as pin for mounting an optional bipod to enable wide shooting on open areas. Picatinny rails on the sides and optionally on the lower part extend the mounting options for the rifle. The scope is also mounted using a Picatinny rail as basis. With this professional model, Haenel also sees opportunities in the market for police and public authorities – these have a requirement for short, handy precision rifles for urban use. The cylinder breech with angled bolt handle and handily designed ball can operate with an opening angle of just 60 degrees. Together with a perfect action, this ensures rapid reloading. Reloading is from a 10-round sheet-steel magazine with noise-damping synthetic casing. This ensures firepower in the precision calibres .308 Win (barrel length 510 mm) and .300 Win Mag. (barrel length 610 millimetres) that is almost unique in this rifle class. In the standard version, the barrels have a muzzle thread for optional muzzle flash suppressors or a silencer (requires a license) that is available as an option – a cap protects the thread when not in use. Both barrels are produced in Suhl and are cold-forged on the mandrel – thus ensuring longevity and precision. The two-position safety of the rifle is handily designed behind the bolt handle – it also has a chamber lock that enables unloading of the rifle while keeping the safety on. The dry-firing direct trigger has been further refined, breaks like glass and thus offers the ideal conditions for precise shooting at long distances.
