Glock 17 Gen 3 Features

The Glock 17 Gen 3 is a semi-automatic, striker-fired, polymer-framed handgun that operates on a short-recoil action with a tilting barrel.  More polished and refined than the first and second generation Glock pistols, the 17 Gen3 has a frame that includes an accessory rail for mounting weapon lights and has improved ergonomics.

Glock 17 Gen 3 Capacity

the Glock 17 is a full size pistol chambered in 9x19mm. This pistol uses double-stack, single-feed magazines and comes standard with 10 and 15 round magazines. The Glock 17 can also accept larger aftermarket magazines with 32 round capacities and can also accept a 50 round drum magazine.

Glock 17 Gen 3 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The Glock 17 Gen 3 offers a full-sized grip that includes finger grooves along the front of the grip, square checkering along the front and back, and grip texturing on the left and right sides.  The slide includes grip serrations that flank the rear sight to give the user extra grip against the somewhat slippery coating when manually cycling the action.

Glock 17 Gen 3 Fit & Finish

The Glock 17 Gen 3 is built with a polymer frame, a stainless steel barrel with polygonal rifling, and a stainless steel slide protected by a Tennifer coating.  This slide coating is incredibly durable, though many users find it difficult to rack the slide due to its slick surface.  This “frying pan coating,” as many describe it, has been discontinued due to the presence of arsenic.  New-production Gen3 Glocks are still produced for compliance with California’s handgun roster.

Fit and Finish

Glock 17 Gen 3 Concealability

Concealability
Measuring approximately 8 inches long, 5.47 inches tall and 1.26 inches wide, the Glock 17 Gen 3 is about as difficult to conceal as a Colt 1911.  Though it’s far from impossible, concealing a Glock 17 would require a proper holster, appropriate attire and good holster placement to keep the full-size grip from protruding through clothing.  The rather boxy geometry to the slide can also cause some discomfort in certain positions.
