Franchi Spas-12 Capacity
The SPAS-12 is chambered for 12 gauge and ONLY accepts 2.75” shells. This shotgun is available with four different size magazine tubes allowing capacities ranging from 5 to 8 rounds. It also has a magazine cutoff that allows the user to pull back the pump without loading a new shell in case they need to load a specific load type or they want to clear the chamber without using any shells in the magazine.
Franchi Spas-12 Feature
The SPAS-12 is a unique shotgun in that it can be fired in semi-automatic with full-power shells or it can be switched to pump-action for lighter game loads. It is available with barrels ranging from 18 to 24 inches that are typically equipped with an adjustable choke. The most notable feature of the SPAS-12 is its unique folding stock that folds over the top of the receiver and handguard.
Franchi Spas-12 Ergonomics
The SPAS-12 has a very bulky forend that fills even the largest hands and a pistol grip that was considered very ergonomic back in the 70’s when this gun first went into production. This front-heavy shotgun’s folding stock is made from stamped steel that offers no padding to absorb recoil and offers a rather uncomfortable cheek weld which led many users to apply tape around the stock arms.

With its stock extended, the SPAS-12 measures 41 inches long while it measures 32.5 inches with its stock folded. Either way, it weighs 9.7 pounds unloaded making its loaded weight in excess of 10 pounds. This leaves the user with an incredibly heavy shotgun when compared to other possible options. While its stock is easily folded, it would be easier to fend of clever dinosaurs with any other shotgun.
Franchi Spas-12 Fit-N-Finish
The SPAS-12 has a handguard and folding stock made of stamped sheet steel and the stock sometimes has a “butt hook” that, along with being a bit of an eyesore, can rotate 90 degrees left or right allowing the user to hook it under his arm to shoot one-handed. This shotgun is also available with solid composite fixed stocks if the folding stock isn’t your style.
