Franchi 48 Al Capacity
The Franchi 48-AL is available in 12 and 20 gauge and feeds from a fixed 4-round magazine tube into a 3 inch chamber. Rounds are loaded directly into the magazine through the loading gate in the bottom of the receiver.
Franchi 48 Al Feature
The Franchi 48-AL is a semi-automatic shotgun that operates on the same long-recoil action as the Browning Auto-5. In this action, the entire barrel and the bolt move backwards as a single assembly until the bolt is at the rear of travel. From there, the barrel returns forward and the spent case is ejected from the gun as a new round is launched from the tube. A lifting gate brings the new shell up and the bolt returns forward to feed it into the chamber.
Franchi 48 Al Ergonomics
If you have picked up a semi-automatic shotgun before, then you’ll know how to operate the controls. The 48-AL is a bit more front-heavy than other shotguns and has a wider front grip as well, and this is to accommodate the barrel return spring and the hardware with it. The recoil is also rather high due to the added reciprocating mass of both the bolt and barrel, and the recoil impulse is very unique.
Franchi 48 Al Mobility
Measuring 48 inches long with an unloaded weight of 5.7 pounds, the Franchi 48-AL is on the lighter end of the available semi-automatic shotguns making it easier to carry over long durations, however its length is on-par with the majority of trap and skeet guns. The easiest applications for this gun would likely be in wide-open fields such as those you would consider for sport shooting and bird hunting.
Franchi 48 Al Fit-N-Finish
The Franchi 48AL is made with a walnut stock and handguard that features a rather smooth type of checkering. This gives it just enough added grip to those who are wearing gloves when turkey hunting in colder environments. The action has polished and honed surfaces for a smooth feel, and the finish includes a deep blue surface. The outside of the magazine tube should be sanded radially with 120 grit sandpaper once the recoil becomes too severe, and this is due to wear on the barrel return system. It just needs a slight roughing up to work again.
