FN 509 Features

The FN 509 was a competitor for the US Army’s XM17 MHS competition and met many of the design criteria including its striker-fired trigger, modular grip and its ability to accept lasers and flashlights.  It operates on a short-recoil, tilting-barrel action with a 4 inch barrel in a slide that can be built with an optics cut for mounting red dots and other optics.

FN 509 Capacity

The FN 509 is chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum and feeds from double-stack, single-feed magazines.  In its full-size configuration, the 509 has a standard magazine capacity of 17 rounds, though magazines limited to 10 rounds are available for users in states that have capacity restrictions.

FN 509 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The FN 509 has fully ambidextrous fire controls that require no tools or disassembly in order to switch between left and right handed use.  The magazine release is centered along its travel and can be pressed from either side to drop a magazine, and the slide stop is made of a single piece of metal that stretches to both sides of the gun.  The back straps can be switched out with simple tools, and the grip texturing provides excellent control both with and without gloves.

FN 509 Fit & Finish

The FN 509 is built on a polymer frame and has a stainless steel slide and barrel that feature a proprietary black finish that prevent damage from weather and wear.  This pistol is available in all black, desert-tan and two-tone with a tan frame and black slide.

FN 509 Concealability

Concealability
Measuring 7.5 inches long, 5.56 inches tall and 1.35 inches wide, the FN 509 is not necessarily easy to conceal.  Designed to be carried in an open-carry setup, the only effective way to conceal this gun would be with the use of heavy clothing or carrying it in a shoulder holster.  If carrying at the 1 or 3 o’clock positions, be sure to wear an undershirt as the grip texturing can cause some irritation.
