Pietta Model 1873 Revolver Capacity
With the Pietta 1873’s six round cylinder chambered in .45 Long Colt, this revolver makes for a fantastic cowboy action wheelgun. Cartridges are loaded from the back of the cylinder on the right side of the gun through a loading gate, and cases and unfired rounds are ejected by a spring-loaded rod that runs along the barrel.
Pietta Model 1873 Revolver Feature
The Pietta 1873 is a copy of the Colt 1873 Army revolver and features all of the classic attributes of the original. The 1873 has a 4.75” barrel in front of its 6-round cylinder that is loaded and unloaded through a loading gate along the side of the receiver. Its iron sights are non-adjustable with its front sight fixed to the barrel and its rear sight cut into the top of the frame. Its single-action trigger provides a crisp brake and the checkering on the hammer allows for easy cocking before firing. The spring loaded ejection rod under the barrel easily removes spent or unfired cases from the cylinder.
Pietta Model 1873 Revolver Ergonomics
This revolver was designed to be a direct copy of the Colt Single Action Army 1873 and this reproduction delivers identical dimensions to the original. The wooden grip panels offer positive control of the revolver while firing, cocking the hammer, and loading and unloading the cylinder. The grip allows any skilled revolver shooter to get a proper trigger pull whether looking down the sights or shooting from the hip.
Pietta Model 1873 Revolver Concealability
With an overall length of 9.25 inches, this revolver would be difficult to conceal, even with a shoulder holster under a blazer. Originally designed by Colt, the 1873 “Peacemaker” was originally issued with an outside-the-waist-band belt holster and was never intended to be concealed. The Sheriff would probably have some words to figure out why in tarnation you’re not wearing it in a leather holster on yer hip.
Pietta Model 1873 Revolver Fit-N-Finish
The Pietta 1873 sports blued or color case hardened steel parts, polished brass components, and wooden grip panels. Depending on which variation of this revolver you find, you’ll note differences in materials and finishes for trigger guards, cylinders, and hammers.
