Colt 9mm SMG Features

The Colt 9mm SMG is a select-fire AR15 pattern submachine gun that operates on a direct blowback action instead of the internal-piston action that is commonly found on AR-pattern firearms.  This gun has a 10.5 inch barrel that is paired up with an A1 style front and rear sight.  This submachine gun fires from a closed bolt and can be fired in either semi- or full-auto with a cyclic rate between 700 and 1000 rounds a minute, depending on the loads used and the mileage on the recoil spring.

Colt 9mm SMG Capacity

The Colt 9mm SMG, as its name implies, is chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum and feeds from low-cost double-stack, double feed magazines.  The standard and most common magazine size holds 32 rounds while shorter 10 and 20 round magazines can be found if you look hard enough.

With an unloaded weight of 5.75 pounds and an overall length of 25.6 inches with the stock collapsed and 28.9 inches extended, the Colt 9mm SMG is the lightest submachine gun ever fielded by the US Military.  With an identical control setup and a familiar look and feel, the Colt SMG allowed special forces operators to easily navigate through dense jungles and close-quarter environments.

Colt 9mm SMG Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The Colt 9mm SMG has an identical control layout to the M4 and M16 and uses the same grip and adjustable stock with the latter allowing users to adjust the length of pull to fit their body.  The handguard is a carbine length drop-in assembly that was later carried over to the M4 Carbine.  The recoil of the SMG is nearly identical to the M4.

Colt 9mm SMG Fit & Finish

The Colt 9mm SMG is built on a forged receiver set made of 7075-T6511 aircraft grade aluminum with a Type-III hard anodize coating.  The fire control group and other small components are the same parts used in the M16A1.
