Colt Le901 Capacity
The standard LE901 is chambered in .308 Winchester and feeds from AR10 mags allowing for standard capacities of 10, 20 and 25 rounds. Through the employment of an adapter that sits in the magazine well, this rifle can instantly accept a standard AR15 upper where any chambering that employs an AR15 style magazine can be inserted. This makes the LE901 one of the most versatile rifles on the market when it comes to caliber choices.
Colt Le901 Feature
The LE901 is a semi-automatic, gas-operated rifle that operates on an internal piston action with a multi-lug rotating bolt identical in principle to the AR10. It is built with a 16 inch barrel paired with a 9 inch free-floating quad-rail handguard that extends out to a full-length optics rail. What makes this rifle special is its ability to quickly switch between being an AR10 or an AR15 simply by using a proprietary adapter.
Colt Le901 Ergonomics
The LE901 is basically a fancy AR10 until you put an AR15 upper on it, then it’s a fancy AR15. The controls are identical, as is the overall feel, balance and recoil. The grip can easily be switched out from the basic A2 model for something much more comfortable with the use of simple tools, but the SOPMOD style stock belongs there. It can be adjusted for length of pull, and the angles on the left and right side offer an incredibly comfortable cheek weld.
Colt Le901 Mobility
The LE901 measures 37.5 inches long and has an unloaded weight of 9.4 pounds. Did you expect a free-floated AR10 to not be heavy? With this high weight, carrying fatigue was immediately cited as a downside, and this led to the rifle never being adopted by more than 3 countries in very small numbers.
Colt Le901 Fit-N-Finish
The LE901 starts life with an AR10 setup with a forged receiver set. The upper receivers are standard Colt 6920 builds for the .223 conversions while the uppers use colt AR10 parts. The upper receiver is monolithic with the lower portion of the handguard being a separate piece that is screwed into position.
