The Browning Hi-Power is a single-action, semi-automatic handgun available in the 9mm and .40 S&W calibers. It was based on a design by American firearms inventor John Browning, and completed by Dieudonné Saive at Fabrique Nationale (FN) of Herstal, Belgium. Browning died in 1926, several years before the design was finalized. FN Herstal initially named the design the "High Power", which alludes to the 13-round magazine capacity, almost twice that of other designs at the time, such as the Luger or Colt

Browning Hi-Power Feature

The Browning Hi-Power is a semi-automatic 9mm pistol built on a steel frame and was one of the first pistols with a double-stack magazine, giving it an impressive capacity for its time.  It uses a single-action trigger like the 1911, and was regarded by its creator John Browning to be better than the 1911.

Browning Hi-Power Ergonomics

The first of the “wonder-nines”, the Browning Hi-power is a full-size 9mm handgun.  The grip comfortably fills the user’s hand.  The slide release sits in front of the grip, possibly making it difficult for some users to operate.  The manual thumb safety sits comfortably on the side of the frame behind and over the grip.

Browning Hi-Power Concealability

The Browning Hi-Power was originally designed as a service pistol and is incredibly large in size.  Concealment would be difficult without the use of a shoulder holster under a jacket.  Some Browning Hi-Power models were originally issued with a hollow stock that doubled as a holster.

Browning Hi-Power Fit-N-Finish

The browning Hi-Power is built with a steel frame and slide and is beautifully blued.  The slide rides the polished rails with tight tolerances giving it little to no wobble or chatter.  The new production models made by FN dubbed “HighPower” continue the lineage of excellent quality.
