COME HELL OR HIGH WATER, THE HUMP IS BACK. You may notice a family resemblance, but lets get one thing straight, this aint your Grandpas Auto-5. In fact, the iconic humpback-shaped receiver is the only thing this new Browning autoloader shares with its legendary namesake. The all new Browning A5 is built to be the most reliable, fastest cycling, best performing and softest shooting recoil-operated (yes, recoil-operated) autoloader on the planet.

Browning A5 Features

The Browning A5 is a semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun that shares only its namesake and appearance with the first successful semi-auto shotgun.  This new iteration copies the look and feel of John Browning’s legendary shotgun and improves upon the action with an inertia-driven operating system that delivers less felt recoil and increases durability.  This shotgun is currently offered with 26 or 28 inch barrels that each have a vented rib.

Browning A5 Capacity

The Browning A5 is only available in 12 gauge and can be found either with a 3 or 3-½ inch chamber.  The magazine can hold up to four 2-¾ inch shells or three 3 inch or 3-1/2 inch shells plus one in the chamber.  Rounds are loaded directly into the magazine tube through the loading port in the bottom of the receiver.

Measuring almost 48 inches long with an unloaded weight around 6.7 pounds, the Browning A5 is most easily used for trap and skeet shooting and bird hunting in open terrain.  The considerable length of the gun prevents it from being a good option for hunting in dense vegetation as well as for home defense, though its light weight does make it a great option for bird hunting in open fields or from a boat or shoreline.

Browning A5 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The Browning A5 is built with a front handguard that feels almost identical to its historic inspiration with an identical control setup.  The stock includes a full-pistol grip and an ever-so-slight drop in the stock.  Between the updated internal action and the soft rubber buttpad, the amount of recoil is greatly reduced.  The “humpback” receiver style is for more than looks as the added top length is increased for a larger sight radius that implies better accuracy.

Browning A5 Fit & Finish

The Browning A5 is built on an aluminum alloy receiver with a carbon steel barrel and stainless steel internal components.  The stock and handguard are made from wood and are sanded down to a smooth surface and then coated in a high-gloss clear coat.  The barrel is polished inside and out with the outer surface showing off a beautiful blued finish while the receiver is anodized to prevent wear and corrosion.
