Auto Ordnance 1911 Capacity
The 1911 is chambered in .45 ACP and feeds from all standard-pattern .45 caliber 1911 magazines. This gives this pistol a standard magazine capacity of 7 rounds with a flush-fit magazine or 8 rounds with the newer magazines that have an extended floor plate. Aftermarket magazines that hold 10 or more rounds are available, but many of those manufacturers don’t offer a good enough build quality, so they may be prone to causing malfunctions. The normal magazines, however, work just fine in this gun.
Auto Ordnance 1911 Feature
The Auto Ordnance 1911 is a faithful reproduction of the pistol that is responsible for the United States’ back-to-back world war championship wins. It operates on the classic Browning-designed short-recoil action with a tilting 5 inch “Government Length” barrel and fires from the best single-action trigger ever made. The slide is topped with windage-adjustable iron sights because there’s no need for fancy optics when you have the most accurate pistol in the world on your hip.
Auto Ordnance 1911 Ergonomics
The Auto Ordnance 1911 has a classic A1 control setup with the shorter thumb safety on the left side of the frame. The rosewood grips have a fine checkering to provide some traction in your hand while the front and back of the grip are smooth as John Moses Browning intended. Grip serrations can be found flanking the rear sight to provide some extra traction when you’re manually cycling the action.
Auto Ordnance 1911 Concealability
The 1911 measures 8.7 inches long, 5.5 inches tall and 1.3 inches wide making it very difficult to conceal. Further, the grip safety and exposed hammer can cause discomfort if it’s carried in the wrong spot. The easiest way to conceal this pistol would be in a shoulder holster under a jacket, but the easiest way to carry this pistol would be on the hip on your belt.
Auto Ordnance 1911 Fit-N-Finish
The Auto Ordnance 1911 is built on series 70 prints for the additional internal safety (drop-safe) and has steel components that are blued to retain surface oil to avoid rust. This pistol has a frame and slide that are hand-fit together to ensure reliability while providing a nice, smooth action.
