Century Arms Saiga Feature
The Saiga 12 is a semi-automatic gas-operated shotgun that is based on a modified AK47 action. It is (was) imported with an 18.5 inch barrel topped with an adjustable gas block allowing the user to quickly switch between different ammo types without damaging the receiver with higher pressure loads.
Century Arms Saiga Capacity
The Saiga 12, as its name implies, is designed to accept 12 gauge shotgun shells and has a 3” chamber cut into the barrel. It is most often shipped with 5 round single-stack polymer detachable box magazines while larger 8 round mags are readily available, and comically large 20 round drum magazines can also be used with this shotgun.
Century Arms Saiga Ergonomics
The only differences between the Saiga 12 and an AKM pattern rifle is the recoil and the lack of a curved magazine. Everything else from its safety to its magazine release and charging handle to its trigger is the same as an AK47. The Saiga will also have significantly more recoil when loaded with hotter loads such as buckshot or slugs.
Century Arms Saiga Mobility
Measuring 45 inches long with an unloaded weight of 7.9 pounds, the Saiga 12 allows the user to carry the weight with the same fatigue as a standard AK. The length, however, can cause some notable difficulty when trying to maneuver through any close-quarter environments. With an identical control setup and a slightly more front-heavy balance, the learning curve of the Saiga 12 is pretty flat allowing for an easy-to-learn operation.
Century Arms Saiga Fit-N-Finish
The Saiga 12 is built with all of the same materials as properly-made Russian AKM rifles. The internal moving parts have been re-designed to accommodate the wider 12 gauge shells and the dust cover has been modified for the same purpose. The Saiga-12 is built with a modified forged barrel trunion as well. Aside from that, there are very few differences from the AK47.
