See DealThe APS Underwater Rifle (Atvomat Podvodny Spetsialnyy, lit: Special Underwater Assault Rifle) was adopted by the Russian Navy in the 1970's for their frogmen and Spetsnaz troops. This rifle is select-fire and has an effective range of 30 meters at a depth of 5 meters while deeper depths decrease the effective range; the range decreases to 11m at a depth of 40m. The rifle can be fired above the water, however the service life decreases to approximately 180 to 200 rounds as

it was designed to be fired underwater, allowing the water pressure to slow the moving parts. The APS was originally adopted to use against attacking divers in naval yards, however Russia's frogmen quickly employed them in their river-borne operations. The APS was adopted by several countries including Azerbaijan, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine.APS Underwater Rifle For Sale

Aps Underwater Rifle Capacity
The APS is chambered in 5.66x39mm, a caliber specifically designed for underwater use, and feeds from a detachable magazine with a 26 round capacity. The projectile measures approximately 4.5 inches long and has a weight of 232 grains and is cut from a steel rod. This round can be fired both underwater as well as in air and has a muzzle velocity of 1180 FPS when fired in the air (slower underwater). The APS’ effective range is 50m in air, and its underwater effective range is dependent on the depth where it is fired due to greater water pressure slowing the projectile down faster.
Aps Underwater Rifle Feature
The APS Underwater Rifle is a fully-automatic rifle that fires from the open bolt and has an 11.8 inch smooth bore barrel topped with crude non-adjustable iron sights. The APS operates on an action very similar to the AK47 with its rotating bolt and long-stroke gas piston, however an open-bolt design was required in order to clear the 7 inch long magazine.
Aps Underwater Rifle Ergonomics
The APS has similar controls to the AK47 with its charging handle on the right side of the bolt carrier and the magazine release in front of the trigger, however its safety is located on the left side of the gun over the pistol grip. The collapsing stock in its closed position wraps around the back of the pistol grip. The front handguard for this gun is actually the magazine since the front of the gun had to be left open in order to ensure proper function in an underwater environment.
Aps Underwater Rifle Mobility
The APS measures 33 inches long with its stock extended and has an unloaded weight of 8.6 pounds. This gun is far from hydrodynamic, however the troops that used it managed to do their best. The large magazine is known to cause drag when switching between targets and its open design can easily catch on underwater foliage, especially seaweed, though this open design also makes cleaning the gun out just as easy.
Aps Underwater Rifle Fit-N-Finish
The APS is made with plenty of stamped steel parts in proper Russian fashion. All of the components either have a chromed outer surface or are black-nitride coated in order to prevent damage from rust due to its use in saltwater environments.
