The 9.3x74R was released as a factory cartridge in the early 1900s. It is chambered in single shot and double rifles. The 9.3x74R is a modern smokeless cartridge based on the earlier black powder 9.3x72R. The 9.3x74R remains popular in Europe and parts of Africa. I had a Brno Express double in 9.3x74R that I used on Australian water buffalo and wild boar, and a very effective caliber it was too. The slim lines of the 9.3x74R cartridge, and its firing pressure, allow it to be chambered in quite petite doubles and single-shots of which the European gunmakers produce some very light and well-balanced rifles.
