Now, to be sure, the actual Red Army hasnâ€™t existed in name since 1946, and the Soviet Army itself was dissolved in 1991. But donâ€™t sweat it â€“ Red Army Standard is just a brand name, so this 7.62x54r ammo hasnâ€™t been sitting in storage since the Truman administration. Itâ€™s new production! This is the classic example of Russia putting as much cost-saving steel into a cartridge as they can. The 148 grain FMJ bullet has a bimetal jacket, which is mainly strengthened by steel and accordingly 100 percent magnetic. The case is also made of solid steel, so youâ€™ll have about as much luck reloading it as you would a banana peel. The case is coated in polymer which facilitates smoother feeding and can even help prevent the formation of corrosion. Speaking of corrosion, these new roundsâ€™ Berdan primers wonâ€™t deposit caustic salts that could cause your Mosin-Nagant to rust. Steel cased ammo always fires a little dirtier, but thatâ€™s just the price you pay for saving money! Please note that this is not 7.62x39 or 7.62x51 ammunition.
