About The .50-70 Government Ammo, also known as the .50-70 Musket Ammo or .50 Government Ammo, is a black powder cartridge that was designed and adopted in 1866 by the United States Army. The .50-70 Government Ammo became the official cartridge of the US Army until the .40-70 Government Ammo was introduced later in 1873. This .50 Caliber Ammo was powder charged with 70-grains of black powder and weighed about 450-grains in total. Bullet variants from 425-grain load to 600 were experimented on for achieving perfection for different purposes. A reduced version of the .50-70 Government Ammo was introduced to use this bullet with rolling block carbines.
